Subjunctive Verbs

Subjunctive verbs are used to stress the sense of urgency. 

The base form is used. 

It does not have any future, present, or past forms.

It is neither singular nor plural.

 

Some examples:

1-advise 2-ask 3-demand 4-insist 5-propose 6-recommend 7-request 8-suggest     9-it is critical that      10-it is essential that      11-it is imperative that       12-it is important that

Some examples:

 

The professor insists that he be on time.

 

The coach recommended that he not train today.

 

It is essential that he read every day!

 

 

 Keep in mind that SHOULD can be used with the verbs suggest and recommend. This is common in British English.

Mom suggested that he go to a park.

Mom suggested that he should go to a park.
